The
World Family Cookbook
The first working
application of the KnowledgeFilter Software is a collaboratively-generated cookbook.
A family cookbook is an easy to understand example of a collaboratively-generated
knowledge-base. Favorite recipes are saved and shared or passed among family and
friends or from generation to generation. Using KnowledgeFilter technology, we have
expanded this idea to an online "World Family Cookbook" designed to grow
into the world's biggest and most useful cookbook. The cookbook knowledge-base will
allow users to contribute an infinite variety of recipes and recipe categories as
well as to rate, sort and evaluate recipes and to comment and share variations on
recipes contributed by others. Eventually, users will be able to custom sort dozens
of recipes for any type of dish from any cuisine.
Recipes can be
rated and sorted by:
- taste
- health
- ease
of preparation
- contributor/author
reputation (how authors are rated on other recipes)
- recipe
name (alphabetical listing)
- number
of supporting comments or links
- date
of contribution
- date
of posting (this is used as the default sorting order to allow new postings to get
fair exposure.)
- a customized
combination of the above (accessed through "Custom or Personalized Sort,"
which allows users to apply weighting factors according to their personal preferences)

The
JokeCenter (freshjokes.com)
The JokeCenter forum allows people to sort jokes in various categories by such criteria
as originality, humor and "tastefulness." Sorting jokes in a category by
originality causes the most original jokes (according to usersí opinions) to appear
at the top of the list. Once people have seen them, they will percolate down in the
originality scale, thus assuring that site visitors can always find the most original
jokes when they sign onto the site. Sorting jokes by tastefulness or "inverse
tastefulness" allows users to find jokes that match their own sense of humor.
Users can contribute an unlimited number of jokes or new categories.
The price of
admission to the JokeCenter is one or more jokes, ensuring a steady stream of fresh
jokes.
The
People's Web Guide
The People's Web Guide will be a forum for sharing user-generated information
about Websites on any topic. This forum will provide a much-needed alternative to
traditional Internet search engines and directories that merely point users at Websites
without any indication of the quality of the Website or the appropriateness of the
Website to usersí individual needs. Comments from other visitors as well as user-generated
ratings are based on a variety of criteria. Using the Peopleís Web Guide, Internet
users will help each other discern Websites that meet individually specified needs.
Consumeratings.com
The consumeratings forum will allow consumers to contribute and access opinions
within a continually growing database of consumer products and services.
The
Hobby Center
The Hobby Center will be a cluster of special interest forums dedicated to virtually
any hobby. Users will be able to share techniques, information and resources unique
their hobby or field of interest.
Note: We are
seeking sponsors for each forum that can provide related products and services as
well as a topic informed group of contributors for each hobby forum.
The
Health Advisor
The Health Advisor Forum will bridge the gap between doctors, medical researchers
and patients by allowing users to access information from the medical professions
as well as sharing personal experiences with other patients. Users will be able to
sort opinions and information by criteria ranging from personal experiences of other
patients to corroboration levels determined by the number and quality of comments
and links to research contributed by health professionals.
The side-by-side
pro and con comment area will allow users to weigh opposing perspectives of both
doctors and patients. This forum will use version 2.0 of the software, which accommodates
content, ratings and comments in two classes; consumer and registered professional.
Each participating professional will have a short profile posted on the site.
The
Gardener's Forum
The Gardener's Forum will be a place for gardening enthusiasts to share knowledge
about America's number one pastime. Regional topic forums will allow fellow gardeners
to share experiences that are unique to their specific climate and growing conditions.
Fisherman's
Forum
The Fisherman's Forum will be a place for anglers to share and access fishing
tips, information and local knowledge pertaining to their geographical location and
their specific fishing interests. Fishing stories and secrets can be sorted by number
of supporting experiences, by corroboration from professional anglers and guides,
by authors and columnists, or by the number of supporting links. Sponsors will be
able to offer tackle, books, videos and other products linked to fishing topics.
The
Investment Advisor
The Investment Forum will be a place for investors to compare notes, predictions
and advice with other investors and financial professionals. Contributors will be
rated by track record, allowing users to sort advice by reliability of the source.
Comment areas will be divided into supporting and dissenting opinions, allowing users
to consider many perspectives on investment strategies and opportunities.
Note: We hope
to forge an alliance with a major online brokerage firm, giving users access to professional
investment advice in addition to the experiences and opinions of other investors.
The
Self-Help Center
The Self-Help Center will be a place to share and access information, knowledge
and opinions on all aspects of self-help. Users will be able to compare approaches
and methods on everything from stress-management to developing the human potential.
Comments and links will allow users to consider many approaches, experiences and
views on hundreds of self-help topics.
The
Wine Lovers Forum
The Wine lover's forum will allow users and professional reviewers to build a
comprehensive knowledge base of wines, allowing thousands of wines to be sorted by
taste, value, availability and professional reviewer scores. Each wine listing will
also feature reviewer comments in several categories, providing the additional sorting
criteria of the ratio of positive to negative comments.
A taxonomic map
of an infinite number of wines would automatically be generated by the program. Additionally,
a set of visually stunning image maps of wine regions and appellations around the
world could link to the major regional categories in the knowledge base. Drilling
down into the set of image maps, users could be given the opportunity to explore
various appellations and link to commercial sites of various wineries, providing
additional topic-specific advertising opportunities.
